The way i avoid influence of my native language is following the style of languages i know, or have had some exposure to (Saalangal is supposed to be very "philippine/indonesian" in character, and of course, Montreiano is a Romance language). Tangental thought: I wonder if there's been any information published on what consonant clusters are allowed in Tagalog and which are not. I guess i'll have to go through a dictionary and manually record the instances. But from what i've seen almost any consonant can come together.

As i said above, Saalangal is imitative, because it's supposed to sound philippine/indonesian. I think it leans more towards Philippine though (it does have the addition of /tS/, but that can be found in Tagalog: tsinoy /'tSinoj/ (hmm.....maybe the influence of english is there, i'm not too sure if it's truly /tS/ or more /ts/). I deliberately allowed only the sounds found "natively" in Tagalog into Saalangal.

I always intend for my language to look natural. Especially if they seem related to some existing natural language. Which reminds me.......i had been considering using existing words from various Philippine languages to fill out Saalangal, but have it's own grammar. Cheap and easy way to get a lexicon i guess :). _______________________________________ "Peace is not healthy for war and other violent conflicts.
