bac does without articles, but certainly marks
presence/lack of definiteness.
so, from |sibar|, star we get :
|sibar| /sIba4/ star, a star
|snibar| |zIba4/ the star
when the noun is in the oblique case the mutation
shifts down a step :
|shibar| /hIba4/ \star, \a star
|sibar| /sIba4/ \the star
i'm still not entirely decided whether the marking of
definiteness is idiomatically necessary ( in which
case it'll probably apply to abstracts and possibly
proper nouns ) or optional. the second would be more
in keeping with the way bac deals with tense (
narrative prose usually uses forms of the verb which
aren't marked for tense ), but i've yet to decide
