I remember my prof telling me about this. I'm pretty sure
she must have published it somewhere. Though I'm not sure
about the 8% figure and I don't know what sample she used.
The context was Standard Average European from a typological
perspective, that definite articles was kind of a European
phenomenon.
I'll ask her about it as soon as possible.
