Well, the Afrikaaners I knew back in America certainly
had /x/ as the pronunciation for [g].

Well, it's been spoken in SA for quite some time and
over a sizeable region. Plenty long enough for
dialectalization, I'd think. Whether there *are*
dialects or not, I do not know, but I certainly
wouldn't be surprised.
