Thanks! Mind you, it's not a true romance language in that it's not
going to be using a lot of the distinctive syntax, but I suppose it
could be based upon words alone. What I do want to do is to throw in
some words from Philippine and maybe other Austronesian languages to
round things out. I'm not going to be going the whole trigger/focus
route though.

I can think of a few:

Dravidian
Japanese
Korean
Basque
Turkic

Maybe there are romlangs of the above? :)
