I think so. I'm wondering if a similar thing happened with 'long u' in English: /u:/ > /y:/ > /Hy/ > /jy/ > /ju/ (where /H/ is the semivowel equivalent of /y/) -- Eric Christopherson / *Aiworegs Ghristobhorosyo
