I don't have that many clothing-related words so far in Rokbeigalmki, but
what there are is:
nguhraash ['n"Vr&S] = clothing
rigraash ['rigr&S] = crown, turban
kwel [kwEl] = a weaving
adereth [a'dErET] = cloak
zan = Murex trunculus (hhilazon) dye
_Nguhraash_ is the general word for "clothing" because originally, all
Rokbeigalmkidhm wore sarong-like sheets of cloth wrapped around their
lower torso and legs. That now has a different name for it, but i
haven't figured it out yet. _Rigraash_ refers to any head covering which
is wrapped around, or based on a hoop, such as a crown, turban,
sweatband, etc. The verbs that these come from, _nguhraas_ and _rigraas_
have to do with the action of wrapping something around a vertical
cylinder.
_Kwel_ just means "something woven".
_Adereth_, a direct RL borrowing from Hebrew (where it means "cloak,
cape"), refers to a kind of distinctive cloak, stained with _zan_, which
all Rokbeigalmkidhm wear. If you've ever seen a Jewish
tallis/taleit/talit (prayer shawl), that's what an _adereth_ looks like,
except more colorful, and without the _tzitziyot_ at the corners or the
fringes on the sides. The verb _aderet_ has to do with wrapping around
from all sides, even though an _adereth_ is almost always worn just
draped from the shoulders.
Rokbeigalmki Clothing:
underwear - they wear a breifs/loincloth-like piece of clothing to cover
& protect the genital area.
footwear - sandals. many people go barefoot.
legs - both men and women wear either sarong-like wraps or the more
expensive, harder to make pants. pants are the only peice of clothing
that are commonly made using non-woven materials. the most common design
for pants uses strips of cloth "woven" in among strips of leather and/or
other skins. they look somewhat like the pants that Hercules wears on
the TV show.
torso - both men and women wear loose (although almost all Rokbeigalmki
clothing is loose-fitting anyway) t-shirt/tunic-like "shirts". men
sometimes wear a type of non-closing "vest" (think the cartoon Aladdin),
and women usually wear a tighter fabric construct under their shirt as a
bra. the _adereth_ is usually worn draped from the shoulders, and each
person has a distinctive dye pattern of stripes, shapes, etc.
head - they usually don't wear actual head coverings, except for straw
hats for shade and turban or skullcap-like coverings for protection. in
Rokbeigalm society covering your head is a sign of respect (one of the
few), and that is done by pulling the top edge of the _adereth_ upwards
so that it covers the top of the head.
