Eh... the elements' names have never been assigned (except for the few ones that were actually discovered). What you're saying is equivalent to say: well, why are nations' names assigned so haphazardly? Wouldn't it be more logical to name them from the North Pole to the South Pole and from the Greenwich meridien on to the East (or the West) by alphabetical order? Strange questions a child can ask itself sometimes...
