Unfortunately, the majority of "light blacks" got that way not because they
"chose" to intermarry for economic reasons, but because their grandparents
and great grandparents were the sexual victims of their owners.
The advantage came because those same owners preferred to have the fairer
skinned slaves working in the house rather than the fields. Thus, "house
niggers" were granted a more privileged position. None of this, however,
was by choice.
