well, i love french ( great to talk ) but have great
trouble with spanish ( castillian anyway ) . . . it's
the intonation patterns, they just make everyone sound
so bored
i actually quite like standard german, particularly
with a mild berlin accent ( i like the way /ai/ and
/au/ tend to /Ei/ and /Ou/ and the near loss of final
/r/ ), i really like russian, and have a huge crush on
icelandic
i also really like the classical ie languages, having
done quite a bit of latin and greek, knowing a bit of
sanskrt, and wanting to get to know some gothic
written i like the look of the languages of the indian
subcontinent, particularly the souther, dravidian,
ones
and for sheer fun, i think it has to be cantonese (
and tonal languages in general ) . . . i love having
to throw your voice all over the place to pronounce
things ! i also find the sentence structure
fascinating, and it's had quite an influence on bac
but, as you can see, in general i'm an ie sort of boy
