I think the Indoeuropeans did ...
Looking at Vedic soma songs etc., a "sentence" looks like
multiple verbs with objects, only loosely connected.
Today one might think in terms of a SQL database table,
rows as sentences and columns as cases.
(Just a thought. If it was merely in my imagination,
all the better for me. Or perhaps it was Soma.)
