Well, the *correct* answer is "when they can't think of any other body parts to demonstrate the verb with". But really, the word <i-lamen> means basically just "to color", and not necessarily with paint... If one was eating blue candy, say, one could say ?oplupa ñVnk'lamenlV ?o -plu -pa ñ -V -nk' -lamen-lV POS.blue.T 1p.GEN.teeth.paint.3p "It's painting my teeth blue" Or, to stick to the example usage, enk'apa ela Uk?oplulamenñy enk'a-pa e -la Uk -?o -plu -lamen-ñy teeth.T with.3p MID.POS.blue.color.1p "I'm painting my teeth blue with it" ...if that was your kind of thing.
