In Aristophanes' comedy _The Acharnians_, there is a reference to the Great King (of Persia) taking an 8-month excursion to "the Golden Hills", which is cleverly rendered in the Arrowsmith translation "the Crapathians". (He adds by footnote that of course the Persian Empire did not extend so far into Europe.) -- John Cowan <jcowan@...> http://www.reutershealth.com I amar prestar aen, han mathon ne nen, http://www.ccil.org/~cowan han mathon ne chae, a han noston ne 'wilith. --Galadriel, _LOTR:FOTR_
