I don't know, but at a guess: because it is internationalist, and hence
redolent of Trotskyism.
In the case of Hitler, of course, the reasons are far more obvious.
To respond to Tom's question, I think conlangers other than Esperantists
would be too solitary and too invisible to get persecuted. They seem
more likely to be exposed to religious rather than political repression,
as evidenced by some stories from conlang-list confreres.
