Z is actually "Zulu", not "zebra", at least in the US Military:
Alfa (note spelling; no idea why), Bravo, Charlie, Delta,
Echo, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel, India, Juliet, Kilo (/'ki.lo/),
Lima (/'li.ma/), Mike, November, Oscar, Papa, Quebec (/kej'bEk/),
Romeo, Sierra, Tango, Uniform, Victor, Whiskey, X-Ray, Yankee, Zulu.
