They're nonhuman. They're avioid beings. They have no concept of
pair-bonding, of romantic love. Kissing might exist between, for
example, mother and child, but I'm not sure. They'd be confused by
kissing, but then again, that would be the least of the many facets of
romantic love that would confuse them, they'd simply accept it as
something humans often do when they both are in the mental state of
"romantic love". :-) I once imagined that if they encountered humans,
an encyclopedia entry for "romantic love" might be something like this:
Romantic Love:
A peculiar mental illness common among humans. It is thought to be
related to addiction diseases ... perhaps the oddest thing about this
illness is not its symptoms, but rather the humans' attitudes towards
it. Most of them see it as a *positive*. Despite the many well-known
negatives attached to it (see "heartbreak", "jealousy", "breakup", among
others), and the loss of rational thought sometimes associated with
romantic pairings, they believe it is an overall good. "If it's a
disease, I don't want to be cured" is a common reaction to the mental
illness view ... One of the greatest unsolved mysteries of humanology is
how the humans managed to achieve so much with such a severe handicap.
