To my mind a "midatlantic accent" is most easily described as a rhotic RP. The accent most Swedes acquire in school could be so described, and RP-latrous educationalists percieve this as a problem. However the vowel system of this Swedish-Atlantic accent corresponds more to a conservative than a contemporary RP. Some Swedes have a rather American accent acquired from watching American TV programs, but with a "preserved" distinction between the vowels in LOT and FATHER. /BP 8^)> -- B.Philip Jonsson mailto:melrochX@melroch.net (delete X) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~__ A h-ammen ledin i phith! \ \ __ ____ ____ _____________ ____ __ __ __ / / \ \/___ \\__ \ /___ _____/\ \\__ \\ \ \ \\ \ / / / / / / / \ / /Melroch\ \_/ // / / // / / / / /___/ /_ / /\ \ / /Melarokko\_ // /__/ // /__/ / /_________//_/ \_\/ /Eowine __ / / \___/\_\\___/\_\ Gwaedhvenn Angeliniel\ \______/ /a/ /_h-adar Merthol naun ~~~~~~~~~Kuinondil~~~\________/~~\__/~~~Noolendur~~~~~~ || Lenda lenda pellalenda pellatellenda kuivie aiya! || "A coincidence, as we say in Middle-Earth" (JRR Tolkien)
