To my mind a "midatlantic accent" is most easily described as a rhotic
RP. The accent most Swedes acquire in school could be so described, and
RP-latrous educationalists percieve this as a problem. However the vowel
system of this Swedish-Atlantic accent corresponds more to a conservative
than a contemporary RP. Some Swedes have a rather American accent acquired
from watching American TV programs, but with a "preserved" distinction
between the vowels in LOT and FATHER.
