In particular I think I remember from that post that he's called out a date
for the millionth word on several different occasions, and the uncharitable
analysis is that he's just doing it to ensure continuous media attention,
since the media eat these sort of stories up.

All ye who are finding excerpts from "A Million Words..." on Google Books:
could one of you post a link?  Of the two editions I can find there neither
allows previewing.
