I suppose I'm guilty of assuming that everyone on this list is a
linguist, when there are many amateurs. I'll be willing to explain
terms that confuse you, if you just ask me in private.

Well, you're sig is a good place to start, just make up meanings and
pronunciations for each part, and you have the beginning of a conlang.
I don't really know where you get inspiration other than from reading
about languages or just out of the blue. I'm not much help, I suppose,
since I'm the opposite - if I gave into each inspiration I have, I'd
have several hundred conlangs by now, probably. :-)
