Yes, I had the same perception, even tho I was a foreigner having learnt
Icelandic in adult age.

I never reached that break-through, probably because I'm not a native
Icelandic speaker. I could easily **read** Faroese however, since the
non-Icelandic lexis is basically mainland Scandinavian, and I'm conversant
in two mainland languages.
