It might be closer relayed to Dravidian after all(*), since in the Real
World there were quite lively overseas contacts between South India and
Ethiopia.
(* If you accept the Nostratic idea, which I don't in the Real World. It
occurs to me that it might be a runaway [Elamo-]Dravidian lg with a heavy
Afro-Asiatic adstrate!)
