In Biwa the irrealis is used in the if-clause, while another mood: the potential is used in then-clause.

I was thinking also in a Swedish approach for the conditional: if-clause in interrogative and then-clause in indicative, but Biwa has only one interrogative and is neither positive nor negative... probably a periphrasis... Two kind of conditionals is as Spanish has it ("si" = if; "entonces" = then): "si" + indicative, "entonces" + indicative or "si" + subjunctive, "entonces" + conditional The second one is an "hipotetical" conditional, while the first shows a cause-effect relationship. This could be made in Biwa as: interrogative + indicative (either positive or negative) irrealis + contidional. -- Carlos Th
