Oh, I did read it. And it was excellently clear! :) In fact that was like
the 3rd time as well. It seems that the example (about the woman and the
rice) is *the* example to use when one wants to explain trigger systems.
I've seen the same example in: _Understanding Syntax_ by Tallerman,
_Beyond Subject and Object_ by Kibrik and then the book you mentioned
_The Major Languages of East and South East Asia_ edited by Comrie.
Hmm... there actually is a *different* example in Comrie's _Language
Universals and Linguistic Typology_ about a woman buying a dress and
a man borrowing money from a bank. :) And Dixon (in _Ergativity_) doesn't
give any example at all(!) He just explains it with his own words. How
about that! :)
Anyway... I'm also looking forward to seeing how this is handled
in Itakian, Christophe.
