'grass'
vs. <yerba> same word, different spelling (I think more used in Latin
America).

They're different words. They have different pronunciations. Yerba should
be /jerBa/ or /Zerba/, and hierba should be /ierba/. Just a slight
dialectic difference, of course, but they are different.
That's not quite the same as American plow vs. British plough, because
those have the same pronunciation.
