A subordinate clause usually is related to the verb. For example in "I
know that you are coming", "that you are coming" is the subordinate clause
because it is the thing that is known.
A relative clause usually is related to a noun. "The man who is coming is
my friend." "who is coming" is the relative clause, because it makes the
noun phrase "the man" more specific.
