Sounds pretty fleshed out already! :-)

Manipulate? How?
The Devourers evolved rather rapidly during the attempted destruction of
them several centuries ago. Long ago, several tribes of Devourers
over-ran the S'kerah Empire and conquered portions of the Nif Empire.
The Nif Empire re-conqurered the lost territory, and began a quest to
wipe out the species. They had recently discovered rich gold mines,
which they used to pay other peoples to aid them in their Quest. By the
time the quest was called off (due to the economic strain it was putting
on the homeland, and politial problems with new conquests). The
Devourers who were most intelligent, and had the self-discipline to
forgo Native flesh for years on end, were able to hide from the Hunters,
mostly in the caves of the Eastern Mountains, and therefore survive.
Thus the Devourers are now more intelligent than before, and have even
evolved a primitive language.
