Exactly so. I met him at DipCon VIII (I think; '77, anyway) and
talked to him about the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, in which he
is a big believer ("I could prove it if I just had a little more
data").

Not that important. But it did provide a systematic source of
"local color" (names of famous NPCs, places, Gods and demons, etc.)
that (A)D&D has always lacked.
