I can think of two reasons not mentioned so far that French might be
especially targeted: (1) as a relatively likely language it is often taught
in schools, and therefore often appallingly badly; (2) in my experience
more people insist what a beautiful or perfect language French is than
insist it of other languages, and dislike occurs in reaction.
But I am sure it is not only French that suffers from such dislikes.

Actually, I always rather liked this. :) And come to think of it, I do
quite like Old French (what little I have seen of it).
