I'm thinking of making one of the descendant langs of my conlang an
isolating lang. So maybe it could capitalize on this :-P That's the nice
thing about having a weird con-universe where there's a long period of
almost total isolation of the three main sections from each other. My
current conlang is the lingua franca of the era just before the isolation;
during the long period of isolation, the language starts to evolve along
three different paths simuultaneously, independently of each other.
As you can see, this is just *contrived* to give me the perfect excuse to
experiment with different types of language change :-) And what makes it
even more interesting is that after the era of isolation, communication
between the three parts of the universe is restored... by that time, the
original lang has evolved into three completely different langs; so they
start interacting with each other in interesting ways.
And, as if this weren't enough, I'll sprinkle local dialects on every era,
with the excuse that other languages existed besides the dominant ones...
giving rise to unlimited possibilities in terms of regional / dialectal
variations, etc.. Conlanging / conculturing is just *so* fun! :-P
