I think it's a little negative, and definitely harsh on the 'nerd'. If
you put a different spin on it, you could portray the 'nerd'as the
logical, rational individual, and the 'dreamer' as just that. Lost in
his own fantasy world. The truth is in between the two. The 'nerd'
does not have a great capacity for innovation, while the 'dreamer'
cannot bring things down to earth.
Both are a little obsessive, though. I'd describe myself, well, as a
polynerd. I'm not massively arty - I can be creative, but only up to a
point. But I'm not single-minded, either. I'm nerdy in several
different fields - languages, computers, history, maths, science,
politics, etc. My prime motivating interest is language, but I find that
that interest is often lost on people, so, depending on who I talk to, I
am nerdy about different things. It's quite entertaining.
