I've made two solar systems that i can remember...none of them have to do
with conlangs or concultures, though. Neither of them are very
scientific, either. :)
#1 - Iyyam:
Made as part of a "descriptive letter" assignment during 7th grade.
the sun is called Iyyam (Hebrew, "i yam", "island of sea"), because the
explorer who discovered it described it as "an island of calm in the wild
ocean of space".
Hellfire - a Mercury-like planet, very close to Iyyam. the sun's gravity
has stopped it's rotation, so the inward hemisphere is partly molten.
the outward hemisphere has patches of ice.
Cloudcover - like Venus. it has two moons.
an Asteroid belt takes up the third orbit in the system. In a gap in it
there are the "Triple Worlds", a trinary mini-system of three habitable
earth-size planets. Also, the largest asteroid is habitable.
Beautiful - one of the triple worlds, where "Mike" (the guy who wrote the
letter) lives. His address is:
82 Exploration Avenue (82 is one of my favorite numbers)
Highrock, Aquamarina Continent 12453
Planet Beautiful, Iyyam System, Sec. 4
Highrock is a suburb of "Great Cliff", a city in the mountains.
Beautiful has "secreta trees", which smell nice, and a place called the
Marble Mountains.
Exquisite - another of the triple worlds. it has some kind of
semi-intelligent species called "chimpanrillas".
Lovely - the smallest of the triple worlds. It has "darting luminescent
dolfish", some kind of sea animal. Cloudcover is slightly smaller than
it.
Habitat - an asteroid large enough to support life, including "towering
Gargantua trees".
Goliath - a gas giant 1.5 times the size of Jupiter, with rings "ten
times the diameter and loveliness of Saturn's". it has the same
yellowish colors as Saturn, but it also has red and blue bands. it has
25 moons.
Svalbard - one third the size of neptune/uranus. looks like both of them
mixed together, bands of blue and green. smaller amount of rings, 5
moons.
Liliput - the smallest planet, with a kilometer-thick covering of ice.
it doesn't have any moons.
#2: the Shaanain (/S@'nejn/) System
made as part of my and my brother's RPG, "Shadow World".
Shaana (Shana) - the sun. probably a little bit smaller and/or cooler
than Sol.
Hathos - first planet, average surface temperature of 350C. no moons,
barren. one "unit" from Shaana.
Shadow - second planet, supports life. average temperature 35C. Three
units away. It wouldn't be able to support life, but it has a magnetized
halo of particles covering the planet, blocking just enough of Shaana's
rays. That's why it's called Shadow.
Dathor - two moons, 33C. four units away. liveable, but no sentient
life. life forms compatible with Shadow life. It was/is/will-be
colonized sometime during Shadow's history.
Renail - gas giant, the largest planet, six units away. 11 moons,
ring(s).
Jaka - first asteroid belt, 7.5 units.
Dulor - nine units away, gas giant, variable amount of rings and moons
because of shifting orbits of asteroids in the Jaka and the Paka.
Paka - second asteroid belt, 10.5 units.
Kaylauk - 4 moons, thick rings. gas giant. 13 units.
Shadow time was extremely decimal. one Shadow day is equal to an Earth
day, but the time is split up in 10s.
10 micros in a nano, 10 nanos in a second, 10 seconds in a minute....
the time measurements are:
micro > nano > second > minute > hour > day > week > month > year >
decade > century > millenium.
1 micro is about .864 earth seconds.
The days of the week were:
Shanaday, Rainboday, Clouday, Starday, Meteorday, Hathosday, Daterday,
Renaday, Dlorday, Kaylauday.
The months were named after the different Eight Races of Shadow, and the
sky and the earth:
Gaeal - the planet /gajE@l/
Hobbiro - halflings /habbi:row/ (but i prefer /?abbi:row/)
Ronewa:re' (a: = umlaut, e' = risingaccent) - dro(w)s /ron@'wa:rej/
Khazdum - dwarfs /'xazdVm/ (or /'k&zdUm/ ?)
Maybnotte - shapeshifters /mejb@'na:t/
Bellazarre - naiads /'bElIza:r/
Yatothe - ents /j@'ta:T/
Quendi - elfs /'kwEndaj/
Manaer - humans /m&n'E@r/
Valnirva - the sky /v&l'ni:rv@/
I adopted the months into Rokbeigalmki as the months #2-#11 of the
Rokbeigalm's calendar:
giiyal, abi~r, ronewar, dazoom, meiyabat, belihzar, yihtath, kewu,
maanaur, valnirva.
As well as month #12, _sha:nih_ (a: = risingaccent), named after Shaana.
Also, the Shadow universe was split into 14 "planes of existance", each
of which had a few different names. Different magic-users based their
power of the different planes of existance.
Cardinal/Pole Planes: (very few people can base their magic on these
planes, they are very powerful, where the emanations of the other planes
come together. i think they were called "cardinalists" or "mages")
Order (Tayvail, Shadow, Ucnic) - this universe, where Shadow and Earth
are.
Chaos (Tohuvohu, Anorche', T'seud)
Inanimate Planes: (wizards use these)
Fire (Aysh, Pyronix, Yaci)
Earth (Selah, Geopsys, Iec'gs)
Air (Avir, Habith, Eac)
Water (Mayim, Genesanz, Vegic)
Void (Tahom, Negato, Muan)
Animate Planes: (druids use these)
Plant (Tzemakh, Chlorasph, J'rekg)
Animal (Khaya, Ferocit, Ekazer)
Fungus (Pitriyah, Parasan, Yokwod)
Microbe (Kiton, Monutianz, Zatculi)
Weather (Mezeg, Atlest, Viegsic) - technically a semi-animate/inanimate
plane
Semianimate Planes: (clerics use these)
Body (Rafuah, Juvenis, Lunb) - the first two 'alternate' names are
because it used to be called "Healing"
Mind (Saykhel, Psyche, Zakn)
-Stephen (Steg), the Spammer
