It is believe that if Jupiter would be a little bigger (probably ten times it mass)
it would have developed as an star... if so, we would have had two stars in the
system.  I cannot be sure but some ten times J. mass would not vary too much the
orbit peculiarities of a planet in Earth position and Jupiter would have been seen as
a very bright star... actually the sun is seen as a bright star in Jupiter.

This is a posibility of how we could construct a duble star system... another
posibility is to place the two stars very close to each other and the planet our
aliens live in orbiting both of them as they would be one single star... this two
stars would be eclipsing each other.

A more difficoult problem would be placing two stars close to each other and the
habited planet orbiting both of them in a 8 like path...  problem would be if this is
stable enough to hold life...
