I can't think of anything really _essential_, but some books I'd recommend
are:
_Gender_ by Greville Corbett
_Number_ by Greville Corbett
_Case_ by Barry J. Blake
_Ergativity_ by RMW Dixon
(Assuming these categories are relevant to the conlangs you plan to
construct. If you definitely don't want a gender system, then skip that book.)
Also it would be good to have a book with short descriptions of natlangs for
inspiration. Say, _The World's Major Languages_ by Bernard Comrie or
something similar.
