From the modern Canadian perspective, the War of 1812 was merely a (rather unprovoked) invasion from the U.S. It only cemented our ties with Britian, and pretty much killed any desire to join the US that Canadians may have harboured prior to that. Any nationalism it may have created was towards Britain, and it became moot with the signing of the British North America Act, or the Statute of Westminster, or the Patriation of the Canadian Constitution. -- Robert
