Sunday's NYTimes Book Review, usually literate, produced these, all in the
space of an inch: (Review by Jonathan Frantzen, of _John Henry Days_ by
Colson Whitehead):

culture...."
" I confess to being *unappetized* by all [these] possibilities...."
The rest of the review, quite favorable in fact, was written in normal
English.
Not to disturb a peacefully resting dog, and just a sidebar to the
"becoming" debate-- in the Travel supplement, we find the information the
"Tokyo is happening--". But I think we know what that means. SO~
