According to the map of Baranek & Weinreich, the eastern border of
the Western Yiddish dialectal area was on the Koszalin-Wroclaw-Szolnok-
River Tisza line finishing at Beograd. This means that Banat (and
Zrenjanin in it) lied in the appr. 150 km wide transient zone between
the Western and the Eastern Yiddish dialects.
N.B. In Hungary the Western dialect was called "oyberlendish"
'highlander' (~ German "Oberländish"), while the Eastern ones
(including the Central etc.) "interlendish" 'lowlander' (~ German
"Unterländisch").
