Re: Saying "Thank you."

Hi all!
Here is what I attempted to send yesterday,
when, having survived a hard-disk crash and the
efforts of all the king's horses (at the shop) and all the king's
men (at my ISP) I thought that I had Humpty-Computer
put back again. But I was wrong. Still erratic emailing
and finding myself pronounced by LISTSERV as not being
a member of this list!
(Then why was I still getting postings from it, albeit in dribbles?)

Anyhow, let's see if it works this time! The following is my contribution to
the
"Thank you" translation:

In rtemmu, it would be simply:

va'i nkidrob
(' = glottal stop)

"nkidrob", pronounced as it looks, means the process
of giving thanks. va'i signifies that the speaker is expressing
an emotion. With "va'i", the usual markers showing at what rate the
process is changing are not used (although they might be added for
emphasis as in va'i na nkidrob = the speaker is expressing a thanking
that is subjectively changing at a normal rate, or va'i kehs nkidrob,
the speaker is demonstratively thanking [kehs = objectively observed
to be changing at a normal rate.] )
