In Jameld, the formal equivalent to "Thank you" would be:
Kothix iye ["kOTiks "ij@]
or, if you're thanking more than one person, it would be:
Kothix iyen ["kOTiks "ij@n]
In normal everyday situations, however, the colloquial form would be used:
Koth' [kOT]
Considering that Jameld is a Germanic language, it's rather puzzling that
_to thank_ is »kothixen«, a word for which the etymological origins are lost
in the mists of time, or possibly in the Great North Marsh. »Iye«, of
course, is simply the object form of »ye«, _you_.
The correct response, analogous to _you're welcome_ or _don't mention it_,
is:
No yere [no "jer@] (literally, "but gladly")
or just
Yere.
BTW, I'm shocked to discover that neither Sevorian nor Rahha ever reached
the dizzy heights of getting a word for "thanks." They remain merely
skeletons awaiting vocabulary. *sigh*
