I wouldn't classify it as "spiritual". For me, a birthday is a small
event, important for the person involved and relatives, but that's all.
It is over all a pretext to have fun, and important more for children
than for adults (but important enough, I like when people wish me a
happy birthday :) ). For that, I would classify birthday with (with a
difference of magnitude) Christmas, not the religious one, but Santa
Claus's one.
