Since shit seems to be of interest to the group (or at least some of the
group), I would refer the group to American Slang, edited by Robert L.
Chapman.  I have the 2nd edition (published in 1998), but I believe there is
now a 3rd edition.  This book is one of the three best linguistics/language
book I ever bought along with the much mentioned Daniels & Bright 1996 and
the Concise Compendium of the World's Languages by George Campbell, a book
that doubtlessly many of you have heard of.
