Aha. Seems quite likely. In my relatively sheltered childhood/young adulthood, I never heard (Engl.) "yo" until I got into the Army in the mid-50s. "Yo!" was the preferred answer at roll-call or any time someone called out your name. Blacks and whites alike. In Kash, _yo_ is a somewhat brusque attention-getting interjection, roughly 'hey' or 'hey, you!'. Now there's a coincidence for you....
