I don't think that; I think Italian is easiest, because it's closest
to Latin.

Yes; but probably because the other languages offered at my high
school were English (compulsory, or nearly so, theoretically you
could drop it but nobody did) and German (thought to be easy though
it's not). I took all three, as well as Greek and Latin, and I found
English and Latin to be easiest and German almost as hard as Greek,
with French somewhere in the middle.
