I was going to suggest creaky voice as well, but I see that Boudewijn=20
beat me to it. Anyways, as Boudewijn has hinted, if you want=20
something besides tone and pitch, then phonation is a good=20
alternative. Other phonations, aside from creaky and modal (normal=20
voicing) voice, includes breathy voice. You can even combine=20
phonation with tone if you want. That is, you can have: high creaky=20
tone, low creaky tone, high modal tone, low modal tone, high breathy=20
tone, low breathy tone, etc. etc.
