So I was wrong thinking that it was programmers who made the world illiterate... they only provided a successful continuation to what telegraphists did... ;) However, it seems less common in the other Western languages to drop foreign diacritics. E. g. German newspapers seem to retain acutes, graves, and even haceks. Somehow cope with that. But I'll never stop wondering about the authors of standards in this area. Basilius
