Eklektu phrases usually contain a main word that essentially acts as a
verb. Eklektu uses cases to mark the arguments of verbs, allowing them to
be rearranged or omitted. Although any word can be used as a noun or a
verb, certain words when used as verbs have a defined meaning for the
various cases. For example, "lig" when used as a verb means "to bind or
tie" (as a noun, "an act of binding or tying"). If I want to say "I tied
the boat to the dock with a rope", I need to use the case marker "u" for
the subject "I", "o" for the direct objects "boat" and "dock" (multiple
subjects or direct objects are not uncommon in Eklektu), and "i" for the
instrumental "rope". If I wanted to, I could just as easily use "rope" as=
a
verb, but the dictionary doesn't specify a definition for the subject and
object of "rope" as a verb.
