Ädelisz

Hello, people.

I've just rediscovered a paper copy of one of my earliest conlangs: Ädelisz
/'ædeliS/, which I developed from Old Saxon, with Polish and Scandinavian
influences, after reading about Hergé's Syldavian. Frankly, I was appalled,
and I set out doing what he had but more systematically. Ädelisz is based on
the island of Rügen off the north coast of Germany, where a communist republic
has survived speaking a Germanic language with Slavic orthography. The only
major deviation from the West Germanic continuum is the palatalisation of
geminated consonants; and here's a sample.

"Moderlandslâf to däs Landes Zebranje is plicht, akz moderlandslâf to däs Landes Burgväs
is forrad," Leon Trotsky, "Patriotism to the Soviet State is duty, whereas
patriotism to the bourgeois state is treachery."

Spelling (following euronatlang conventions) is quite idiosyncratric, so here's a IPA rendering:

/'mo:d@rlandzlOf to dAs 'land@s z@'branj@ is plIxt, aC 'mo:d@rlandzlOf to dAs 'land@s burg'BAs
is 'forr@d/

I'm quite fond of this little language, and have decided to work a bit on Old
Ädelisz, which will be written in the Gothic alphabet (originally), methinks
and bear some resemblance to Old Norse.
