Not quite the same thing, but for quite a while in its development, Bendeh
was saddled with ridiculously strict word order. In this period I had to
choose between VOS and SOV word order. (Don't ask....) I kept on
changing my mind, and retyping all my examples in the notes reversing the
order of every morpheme literally. I probably went back and forth about 6
times. It was horrible and hilarious. The experience convinced me of the
value of (reasonably) free constituent order.
