My personal belief is that since English is becoming the dominant world
language (especially on the Internet) and Chinese are the largest ethnic group
(ignoring for the time being their subdivisions), we will end up with the dominant
world language being
English as used by Chinese speakers, especially on the Internet. I got
exposed to some of this while teaching an online class whose students were in
Singapore. As I am a traditional English teacher, it made me very uncomfortable,
but I expect it will soon be very widespread.
