Etimology of 'Scott'

Here's a question my brother wanted me to ask you
(he won't tell me why): does anybody in the list
know the origin and etimology of the surname "Scott"?
(and any related words, of course). Thanks a lot.

And for myself, does it have to do at all with the
Spanish surname "Escoto" (probably << Italian "Scotto")?
