Nevertheless I'm going to stick to my "debased Vico-Danian" ['l&:D@fow@D].
I don't think he'll mind! ;-) I'll also stick to Catford's "Fundamental
Problems in Phonetics" for reference on phonetics -- mainly because that
happens to be the book I already got!
